I am upgrading my computer including cpue motherbaord and hard drive and I would like to transfer over my programs without having to reinstall them. I know that if i just copy over the contents of one hard drive to the new one it wont boot up becasue of the motherboard. Windows files and settings transfer is no good becasue you have to reinstall all the programs. I will be using the same operating system the only thing diffrent is its a new hard drive and the motherboard and graphics card is new. Is there another prgram out there that can create one big file to unpack later?

You are upgrading 3 or 4 of the most imprtant components of your com...

Do a fresh install on the new comp !!!!!

Its not only the boot up thats in question it is the processor I suspect diff ammounts of cache , dif hard drive, the file layout on the drive will be diff, and many other factors....

Do a fresh clean install and relaod all apps from sratch..

If you can leave the old setup, make sure its running, and once you have the new one loaded and configured, connect the 2 together via the ethernet port and just transfer all the files across...

If not just burn everything to dvd.....

My suggestion any way...

IF IT AINT BROKE, DONT FIX IT

Do a fresh install on the new harddrive first then slave the old drive and use both drives. keep your old programs on the old drive and the newer programs and stuff on the newer drive.

You can try this
Method to change mobo and/or cpu.
You can but do it the right way..
(old system)
pop in your XP cd.. go to this folder:
support\tools\deploy.cab
Make a new folder in your c:\ called Sysprep
(Notice the capital in the sysprep)
Extract the files from deploy.cab to c:\Sysprep

Go to your new folder. Double click sysprep.exe
make sure you have the "Shutdown" selected in the dropdown. Click the "reseal" button.

NOW
Dont do a darn thing. Let the computer shut down. This may take a few minutes..

Swap over your Motherboard and CPU.
Start the system and you'll see the computer will start to boot into the new user mode.
Have your cd key ready.

now your all set.

At the user section add a new user.. Not the same user name as you had before.. Enter the new user then log out.. Log into your old user name and you can now safly delete the "new" user you had to create
