Go ahead & move Wordpad files to the jump drive. Wordpad uses txt extension. XP will recognize the files as txt files the same way Win ME do.

The better & safer way is always first copy files to jump drive then test open the copied files.

Once you are sure they all open fine, you can then delete the files from the original location. Reason is that if you move them straightaway and something happen during the file operations the files will be irreversibly lost.

XpUser has said it all. You can transfer your word pad files to XP without any compatability problems as XP also supports word pad.

Just make sure that all your files are transferred and working on your new PC before you delete the old ones. This is just in case of any copying errors.

The only time you have to worry is when you are transferring files across that do not have a supporting application in the new environment / PC.

Yep, it's not really the "files" that are different (unless you're talking about various versions of MS Office), but the "file-system". Most WordPad documents that would work on WinXP should work on any other 32-bit Microsoft operating system (Win9x,NT,2K,Vista). You would likely even be able to read them in Win3.1's "Write" accessory...

There is almost always a way to save files either with "save as" or export. Almost every modern OS supports htm or html pages. Almost every OS supports ascii text.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

"I *know* WinXP uses a differant file format"

No, (no), it does not - - it can use a different filesystem (NTFS) but that is hardly the same thing

A file is a file

You main concern would be to ensure that the flash drive is compatible with WinME (likely requires a driver, if available)

Censorship is the tool of those who have the need to hide actualities from themselves and others. Their fear is only their inability to face what is real.

Thanks to all that replied ,I have already installed the required drivers from a .cab file on the WinMe PC so that the thumb drive works ,its reconized as drive F ! When Iam fininshed with it I use the icon in the taskbar to undock drive then tranfer over to WinXP! I was aware of WinXP and the NTFS file system ,that was what I was concerned about ,apprently it does not effect files of the .TXT or .DOC format ?
Take Care ,Thanks Again
