Hi,

One of my computers at home just crashed and I am in the process of reinstalling everything. I have two computers directly linked that both have XP Pro. Is it possible to transfer all the Microsoft XP updates from one computer to the other, so that I don't have to wait so long for them to download on my dial-up modem? (Also, I am afraid to be on the internet without the Microsoft security updates on the computer that crashed)

Only if you used the Microsoft Update Catalog option previously (which is very unlikely).
This saves all the updates into a folder and then runs them from there. It's designed for Networks but you can also save them to CD etc for safe keeping.

As for going on the internet without the updates, just make sure you turn on your firewall before connecting your machine to the web then go straight to Windows Updates and you'll be okay.

Another idea is to check any magazine coverdisks you have. Some magazines include the updates, especially the Official WindowsXP magazine.

Wow. Thanks for all the info and offer of help. I think I'll just bite the bullet and download them tonight, as there are other things I need to do on the internet and I need to do this first. I will turn on the firewall, though.

Thanks again - very helpful. I really appreciate it.
