Built into XP, so simple.

Connect the 2 PC together NIC-NIC with a crossover cable [presumably you have RJ45 / CAT5 connections and not BNC / Co-axial cable].

On the XP system click:
start> my network places> view network connections> create a new connection>

You'll want to create an Advanced Connection and specifiy the NIC as the interface.

XP will create a disk and walk it over to the 98 system, pop it in and then it will set up the 98 system.

YOU'RE NETWORKED and can share or transfer to your hearts content!
