Reply: (edit)i dont know about the usb to transfer files. But yes with the ethernet you can transfer, you just might need a NIC for the machine that doesnt have the onboard ethernet adpater. Then just setup a direct parallel conenction and you should be able to transfer info.

Reply: (edit)Hi There, I just recently transferred all my files from one machine running Win 2K to a new machine w/XP. I read the following info: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/deploy/mgrtfset.asp?frame=true but ended up buying software called 'PC Relocator' by 'Alohabob' which transferred all my files, photos, MP3s - even programs from one hard drive to the other. It took forever using the serial cable it came with, but it supports a USB connection and I think you could transfer a Gig in about 2 hours or so. There are a few brands of software out there, but I give this one 2 thumbs up! (You could probably get it on eBay!)
