Subject: transfer files and folders problems
Comment:

I have 2 laptops and cannot figure out how to transfer files. The wizard will let me transfer with serial cables but it is much too slow. I tried crossover ethernet cables but wizard does not give you a way to connect with these cables. Everyone says that it is easy. What am I doing wrong. I need step by step instructions if it's super complicated.
Thanks

try this...hook up your crossover cable, assign STATIC ip addresses to both the machines (i.e. 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2) make sure both have a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and then simply make sure file and print sharing is enabled. Also check to make sure your computer names are different and your workgroup names are the same. once you have that done, go to each laptop and right click on the c:\ drive and go to sharing..set your properties as you wish, and you should see the c:\ drives of the laptops when you go to network nieghborhood. most of these instructions apply to windows 98, but similar steps are needed for XP. (im assuming you know a little about home networking as i write this.) if you need more in depth help, post again! l@er
