Comment:

I have a computer that is connected to the Internet thru a router. Often when I try to browse the Internet I get "page not displayed" as if there is no connection. When I use tracert to test my connection it seems to work fine and I also get an IP address when I renew the lease from the router. Other programs that use the Internet seem to work fine and my firewall is no set to block HTTP or Internet explorer. Restarting the computer usually fixes the problem but its only a matter of time before it happens again. Does anyone know what could cause this and how I can prevent it.

Thanks,

Matt

When you use traceroute do you use the name or IP address?

Instead of restarting the computer try a "repair" on the network interface first. If that fixed it then use on command line at a time that makes up the "repair" function.

type ipconfig /all

Do you see a DNS server? Do you have an IP address starting with 169.xxx.xxx.xxx?

Can you ping the DNS server?

Can you ping www.yahoo.com ?
