i am very technicaly inclinded
but i dont understand and want to
know something when i go to download
something i start at 14. kbps
then is drops to 7. kbps
and on down till about an average
5.kbps to 4.
now aside from why is there a way to
stop it from happening
meaning to keep a high transfer rate
when downloading i know and
understand that the service provider and
traffic can make a diff and so can from
the source i am downloading from as well..

What is happening is the download has already started before the little box pops up so it's just catching up. Your actual download speed is what it settles down to after a while. This is the way it works for everyone no matter what connection speed you have. In my case downloads start at about 700KBs and settle down to about 350-400KBs after a few seconds
