OK, I am going to reinstall XP on my computer, but I want to know the best way to delete EVERYTHING on my hardrive and then install it. I want to start fresh with no problems at all. Thanks a bunch.

I am having a similar problem...I have a computer with Win98 and it is having some problems, I want to format the hard drive, but I want to upgrade to XP in the process. Now I have two other computers with XP on them, but I do not know who to make a boot disc. I know I can format from the boot, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to make a boot disc for Windows XP.

Matthew
You should not need to create a Boot Disk for Win XP as the CD is bootable. You have two options to reformat your PC with WIn 98 on it.
(1) Boot using your Win 98 boot disk and do a format C: at the cmd line. Then install Win XP
(2) BETTER choice: Run the Win XP CD and allow it to format the hard drive during installation
One option if you have data you need to keep on this PC - use FDISK to create a new partition and move data to this part of the disk. Then when you install Win XP install it on the other part of the partition. (Personally if your data is real important I would be sure to have a plan B backup as well).
Hope that helps

Matthew asked a good question and didn't get an answer, and I'd like to know too ... How to make boot disks for Win XP ?
My CD may be damaged, but after I boot W98 with XP in the CD Drive I get an error message stating it can not run in DOS mode at the W98 DOS cmd line.

Okay, I have a new problem...I have a Win 98 boot disc so I can get where I need to format, but I am missing a vital piece to this puzzle. What I lack is the syntax for the command line. I have tried 'format C:\' I have tried it in all caps, I dont know if that matters, I know with somethings it does...If anyone could give me that I would be forever in their debt. Thanks.
