Hi,
How do I get my XP sp3 system to recognise a new external drive? On the same USB lead my old external drive works perfectly!

Does it see the new hardware device and is just not assigning a drive letter? Does Disk Management see the drive?

Hi,
It does not appear to find the new hardware and does not give an audible bleep as my old disc does with a ballon saying new hardware found and ready for use.

Not sure what you mean by disk management, could you please clarify?

Check the jumpers on drive.

Disk Management: Right-Click My Computer, Manage, under Storage, Disk Management

Is the drive inside an External enclosure? 2.5" or 3'5" drive? Old drive you mentioned 2.5" or 3'5"?

Hi,

New unit is a neighbour's and he has taken it home so can't check disk management. other disks are shown.
New disk is 2.5" I think. Palm size with 500Gb storage. My old unit salvaged from an old computer is 3.5" and has storage of only 20GB?
