Too many Processes

I have about 38-48 Processe running at any given time in the task manager. I ended most but the essential ones and my computer seemed to work faster with about 18-20 running processes. Then it froze. How can I safely end these Processes so my computer works faster? And so it doesn't freeze.

I am not on my notebook so I can't be specific about the method to editing the Startup file, but in ME you would run 'msconfig', then unclick any programs that you do not want to start at bootup. It is any process once you get to the correct place to do it.
Here is an equally important process for you, one that I just completed this morning, and that is to examine those tasks to see if (1) you need them up and running, and (2) are some of those tasks considered as 'adware' or 'spyware'. Here are a couple of sites that list programs that are offensive or potentially harmful to your system:http://www.lafn.org/webconnect/mentor.startup/PENINDEX.HTM and http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm.
I was able to reduce my task list down to only one screen. You will pick up a lot of memory and resources.
Good luck.

I think you got carried away in disabling and/or resetting processes from automatic to manual. I would restore default settings. You wrote them all down right? Then I would only change 3 or 4 at a time. Run the computer for a day. If all is OK, change a few more, etc.
