too long after login

OS: Windows XP
CPU/Ram: AMD 64 3400
Product: Asus K8N

XP boot up, I click on my username, type password, then XP takes too long and waiting! nothing to do... so I pressed enter key at twice. Finally XP loads. I hate to press the key every time! There is NO domain and no network connection. I have only internet connection. Any idea to help? how do we solve the problem?

pcuser4, SWAG, maybe you have things running in the background using up machine cycles and it's being buffered? Edit?
