To play .mov and .avi movie files

.mov is playable by quicktime only. as for your AVI, you do need the codecs, which you can download here: www.divx.com for your .movs go to google and type 'quicktime alternative' and you should find it. Its a good cut down version of quicktime that doesnt take over your whole machine. whoa whoa whoa folks. vlc will play anything!!!!!! even a biscuit if you shove it in the cd rom (i was kidding!) vlc is theeeeee beeeeez neeez. it will play everything. a google search for vlc or videolan will give you the download.
