Comment:

I recall you both having similar problems with msinfo32 that invoked the Help and Support rather than the system information. In case you still have not yet found the solution, there is a workaround here that may interest you.

Let me know if this helps :-)

I had the same problem. The workaround brought it right up.

Thank you.

Running System Information as a parameter from Run > Dialog > "msinfo32.exe" enables Help and Support Module and not System Information.
Issue can be duplicated when running from Desktop shortcut menus.
Workaround:
Running this parameter from Run > Dialog: type the following:
(note spacing)
"msinfo32 /categories +all -loadedmodules"

I suspect that the problem might be fixed by extracting the msinfo32.exe file from the XP CD.
I can't test it because I don't have SP2 installed.

Hey XpUser- that works. Thx. On my way to the shop to buy a new mobo for the garage machine. Won't load NSW and just lost the mouse and kb. See ya later.

Please post back within 24 hours or I will delete the post from my follow up list. Thanks. It would be a courtesy if you would post back and let us know if the fix worked or not.

Thanks. But I don't remember having that problem. I do remember someone else having it, and I may have contributed my two cents worth along the way.

Hi Salgolf,

I refused to let go of this thread because it didn't come to a happy ending. It remain in the back of my mind while I was elsewhere reading threads and thought I should bring it here.

XPUser -

You're quite right. I had almost forgotten about this one and was thinking msconfig or sfc. I never did solve my original problem, and experts elsewhere were no help.

But the problem evolved into people having trouble opening up msinfo32 and having it go to help and support instead. I never had that problem, but did have the original one I posted: some 4000 so-called startup files. That's what was never solved...or answered.

Thanks anyway.
