I have a tiny problem. If i'm downloading files while listening to music (with winamp) the pc will lockup for about 2 seconds then return to normal. While in lockup the song stops with a annoying sound then returns to normal as well. It will continue doing this until the download is done. My question is if anyone knows what is causing this problem? Could it be something with my sound card? Network card? Is there any way to fix this? Please help me it is getting annoying. Not only does it do it while downloading a file but if I go on a forum, or play games (like Unreal Tournament 2003) it does it there as well. Any help would be great.

Hi,
Do 1 thing uninstall winamp(everything including registry entries ) then restart your machine. Then use play a song using windows media player and download a file it shud work ther mite b some conflict

I tried that but it still does it. Even when there is no music play and a file is just downloading the mouse locks up for the 2 seconds and well.

I don't have a virus, I just reformatted a week and half ago and I have my Norton Antivirus 2003 up to date.

Sounds to me like a bad soundcard. Id suggest trying another soundcard if you can.
Also is this a new problem that has only just started happening?

I doubt its the soundcard. It's brand new probably like 2 or 3 weeks old. Even when im not listening to music the computer still locks up, because the mouse becomes locked up as well. With music on its more noticeable when it shuts off when in lockup. I'd say it's been happening for quite awhile now, just getting tired of it.

What's your internet connection? I've sometimes had such problems on dial-up.
I certainly think you have enough RAM and processing power to prevent such "hiccups" with Windows XP!
By the way: Open taskmanager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc), click View > Select Columns, then check Base Priority. You could try raising the priority of your media player or lowering the priority of your web browser/download manager.

I'm on cable internet. Usually when I'm downloading its coming in around 200k a second. I'll give the priority thing a shot and see what happens.
