I'm trying to find out how to convert to the original Times New Roman font before it was updated into looking bolder and larger. Some of you may remember what the original font used to look like.

The new, updated version appears in my web browser, word programs, etc. -- so I therefore do not know who is responsible for updating it, but I suspect Windows.

I would appreciate if someone could confirm who, as well as provide any instructions as to where and how I may install the original version.

Thanks.

The Times New Roman font on this machine still looks like the original Times New Roman font to me. I'm not even aware that M$ has issued an update for it. What were you doing before this problem materialized? Did you install some graphic application that changed the font?

I have to go with what Xp/VistaUser said.

I can't recall a TrueTypeFont font ever being "updated"... Make sure you are not confusing similar-named fonts, like Times New Roman vs Times New Roman PS, vs. Times Roman, vs. Times, etc.(All four of these have a different origin).

Perhaps you can check the properties of the font you think has been "updated"...

Is it possible that the system font size has been changed in the 'Display Properties > Appearance tab'?

The font hasn't been changed in Display. I suspect that one of MS's automatic updates changed this.

Because the appearance has been altered, I can't even search for the kind of font I'm looking for because it's changed on the web-browswer, too.

My brother's comp. uses XP also and his font is the original. So, I have no idea how to fix this...

Is it just the Times New Roman font that's changed, or have all your TrueType fonts become "bolder and larger?" What happens if you go into Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Fonts and change the default web font to, let's say, Book Antiqua or Baskerville?

I'm just trying to see if your problem is the font itself, or some other property.

I think it's just Times New Roman. I used to use courier a lot, as well, and I'm pretty sure it's the same.

TNR 12 used to appear as thin, professional letters. I can't write using cartoon-balloon letters.

MS wants me to use their ****ing phone support and pay a fortune for a product of theirs I bought.

Can anyone else tell me if their font has changed -- even if it was years ago?

I've never seen the Times New Roman font change shape or size.

You said your brother's computer has the original font. Why don't you compare his font files with yours?

TNR fonts, particularly those of size 12 or greater, look different on my new 17" TFT monitor.. they are wider and the edges seem to be smudged. Had not observed this on my old smaller CRT monitor. I wonder whether we are talking about the same thing?

I made a wise decision, got a bargain deal, and the next day found that my model was outdated.

Yeah, it may be just the monitor. Any idea on how I could adjust the appropriate settings?

Is it possible to somehow save my brother's TNR to a cd and upload them on my computer?

You should certainly compare the versions/timestamps of your font files with your brother's. You will find them in C:\WINDOWS\Fonts. If they are different, you can copy them from one machine to another. But take backups first (e.g. move them into a zip archive.)
