I have a home DSL network with 5 PCs (one wireless) steered by a D-Link WBR-2310 router.

I need to set website restrictions on all machines, but only between specific hours; ie, "www.nastystuff.com / No Access 7AM to 5PM". So far, I have found plentiful info on round-the-clock blocking -- what I need is a way to block certain sites during the day, then have them automatically open up after hours.

The model router I mentioned is incapable of such scheduling, so I must execute this is on separate machines. Is this something I can accomplish in Windows' "Scheduled Events", or is there a better way? Any and all solutions are welcome.

How about this, put the domains you do not want in the hosts file.
Then create a txt file and copy this to it

ren C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts hosts.old

remember the space between the two hosts. Then save it and rename it "nighthost.bat"
Then do the same with another file but enter this into it.

ren C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts.old hosts

Remembering again the space between the hosts.old and the hosts. Then rename it to "dayhost.bat".

Now set the scheduled tasts to run nighthost.bat at 5 PM and the dayhost.bat to run at 7 AM.

Run a virtual machine to act as your connection manager. Run all systems to the VM and let the VM be the only connection through to the router. Or build or buy a dedicated device.

By the way. The bad sites should be restricted 24/7/365.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

Hahaha; great sig line, Jefro.

I don't want to choke off bad sites; fortunately the folks I have to be policing don't visit them. I just need to set certain time parameters on unproductive time-wasters, so serious tasks can get done in the alloted time. The time afterwards can be spent however they want.

Great tips so far. Always welcoming more, and thanks.
