This is my original post that I put in hardware
"Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that the battery on the MB kept the settings while the computer was off and that the computer kept the settings while it's running. My internal clock keeps slowing down. I was about to replace it but before I did I noticed that even while my computer wasn't shut down, the time had slowed down again. Do you think it's my battery or something else?"
The answer I got back was that it wasn't my battery. So now I'm assuming it's software. Any thoughts out there?

Windows is not famous for accurate time keeping. There a many free atomic clock software programs to keep the settings accurate, and many that you pay for too. If your battery is 2 years old or more, replace it, it is two dollars at radio shck. If the time settings are less than a minute but yet seconds off, then get a free software program like Rocket Time or, AtomicS from MXM technology. You can also use the XP internet time setting in the control panel.

Thanks. I'll replace the battery. It's nearly 2 years old. The time is off about 15 minutes a day. Then I'll get one of those time sync software you mentioned.

If it's off by 15 minutes a day, then you do have a problem. If the battery doesn't fix it, it could be a hardware problem with the clock or an application causing it.
