Anyone know where I might find a patch for the shift in daylight savings time? Windows wants you to install that Genuine Advantage before I can get the patch from them!
Thanks
Ray

Then why bother. Just untick the box for automatic update for daylight saving time and set manually.

Unless I'm mistaken even Automatic Update depends on your consenting to WGA validation check. Go legal is your only option.

There's a simple work around for WGA & you'll never have to worry about it again. Try googling "make windows xp 100% genuine"

XP
I was referring to the box in adjust time & date>time zone> automatically adjust for daylight saving time. As far as automatic updates to Windows are concerned, I think you are correct about WGA.

Start using Firefox instead of I.E., then go to WindizUpdate for all your updates.
Don't forget to turn off Automatic Updates.
Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

That is not true. XP SP2 came out before the new Energy Law that changes the DST dates. If you have SP2 and are running automatic updates, then you would have gotten the update for DST. (931836)

Go back to response #3 & copy the phrase I have in quotes (copy the quotation marks too). Paste that phrase into google....your WGA worries will be over ;-)

Thanks to XpUser for the link to the ms knowledge base article about WGA. I received the WGA update in my selective updates but didn't install it. Since then I have received no other updates from Microsoft. I did receive the DST patch (I guess) and my DST change was properly operational this march 11. Based on that knoweldge base article I think I will install WGA - should have no problem on my (legal) computer. Now, when I install that new PCI-E video card.....

Although I have had some issues with MSoft's business practices in the past, I find the WGA route to be acceptable. If you are genuine then you get the protection of the updates. If you are running pirated software then you run bare. Still undecided about automatic updates though. I have seen some issues here with IE7 for example, yet MS is pushing it. My IE6 wasn't automatically updated when I used the Windows Update.
As far as DST resets go, the same market forces are at work here that drive the entire industry. There is no profit in supporting an OLD OS, so if some freeware isn't produced, expect to reset manually.
I have a FAX Modem installed just for faxes, use broadband for the internet. The bundled software worked flawlessly for a couple of years with Win98. Now I am running XP and this software is giving me fits. I will probably be forced to upgrade the software. I might add, it is supposed to work with XP.
