Interesting to note. Thanks to the up and coming Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows XP's mainstream support won't end until some time in 2011. According to Microsofts lifecycle support policy, the mainstream support of a Service Pack is 24 months. So it looks like Windows XP will be around for a while longer.

it's going to be really interesting to see wether MS will cease to license OEMs with XP on June 30th or not.
since ASUS' Eee PC hit the market and a lot of other manufacturer want their share of it (with own models or something based on the VIA 'reference') there will be a huge demand for Windows XP as those low spec UMPCs don't run Vista too well :)
and i really can't see Microsoft just standing by and watch millions of computers being sold (ASUS estimates the sale of 5 million Eee PCs in 2008 - IF they can deliver) with various flavors of Linux.
sure they have the ideal product at hand ... why not selling Windows FLC to the broad public or license it to OEMs? all it needs is the good old DUN support to operate 3g devices, shouldn't be too hard to have that fixed.
and since it's called FLC and not XP, it wouldn't just look like another Vista defeat by an in-house competitor. :)
