You could try posting the full headers and see if someone wants to glance at them.

You can identify the source of Emails from the headers but they can also be disguised. Spammers do it all the time.

If these Email are threatening violence or something similar I would have thought it was a job for your local Law Enforcement Agency.

You cannot find the identity of someone via an Email address but Law Enforcement Agencies have the power to force ISP to reveal the owner of an IP addresses if it is within their jurisdiction.

You cannot send an Email without sending an IP address, either a real one or spoofed one as described above. But even spoofed Emails can be tracked to their source.

What kind of threats? One wrong move would be to reply to these emails.

Personally, I've dealt with this several times over the last 10+ years and the emails were ALWAYS sent to one of my free accounts. Some of the accounts were for website registration purposes only, and were never used for anything else.

If I don't know the sender, I ignore the email, especially if it appears to be just some sort of spam email.

What you do about it is your decision of course, but if you pursue it, contact Hotmail, and be prepared for a long process. You'll need to make sure and save ALL the emails you receive.

physical or emotional threats, whether by forums or email, is classed as cyber-harrassment and in most countries is an offence.

polaris_rider, the first course of action for you, is to contact your Internet Server. They should take it from there.
