I have a machine which has been upgraded to WindowsXP (*#@$!). It had also had an upgrade from office2000 to officeXP. These wonderful new, unsupported products!
The system got a virus. We had to re-install some programs.
Now when trying to run the install/upgrade to officeXP we get the following:"This package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package."
I have found this very message in the knowledge base. It even offers a solution: running "windows installer cleanup utility...msicu.exe".
However, that option applies only to win95/win98.
It specifically says not for XP!
You'd think they would offer the option which would work for XP. But, instead they leave you hanging!Does anyone know how to get around this error? Is there indeed a "windows installer cleanup utility for XP)?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tony

look you had a virus they cause havoc with system and you cant blame any os for those problems.you should backup your data and clean install xp,so you lose the corruption caused by the virus
