Hello, Why once I have read a thread and hit the back button does the web page return to the top? This only happens on the Computing.Net site and it's a pain because I then have to scroll down again to keep searching for the next thread.

or am I doing something wrong?
Thankyou
Jon

Several changes involving the back button have occurred on this site rather recently. The one you posted, and also-- if you use search and open a found thread, and then use the back button to get to the list of threads found, you'll get a "page expired" notice.

This never happened to me until I recently installed Norton Security. In order to stop it, I have to turn that off if I'm doing a session here. Fortunately it leaves the virusscan on. Turning off individual programs of Norton doesn't help. Have to turn all off. Not very satisfactory and I hope Norton comes out with a patch.

I've had Norton Security installed for ages and this problem is only here at Computing.Net! and that's what I cannot understand. If it was every site then that would be a different problem.

I meant that it only happens on computing.net. Not elsewhere. Have no idea.

I did a search on this forum for the problem and found dozens of answers, none of which worked. You might want to look yourself. Also did a google search for page expired. Relatively worthless because it finds every website that uses page expired.

If Norton had decent knowledge base and less expensive and decent tech support, I'd ask them, but they won't know anyway.

Justin Weber posted a "work around" 3-4 weeks ago, but I can't find it. BTW, I don't use Norton, so don't think Norton really figures into it.

I think the work around is the simple

right click and "Open in new window"

not a fix just a work around :-(

Are the people experiencing this problem using I.E.?
You could try using a different browser.
I don't get the problem with the back button taking me to the top of the page, it takes me to where I was before.
I'm using Crazy Browser (Free and with a built-in popup stopper).

Thanks for that new window reminder. That's what Justin had suggested a while back, and I couldn't remember.

Alan56- excuse my above post. Got your name in the wrong block somehow.
