This problem I am having with one system has got me stumped.
Background: I just put a brand new HDD in, formatted it to NTFS, and installed XP Pro. The HDD is the only new peice of hardware. This system used to run 98SE, and has a GeForce2 MX400.
The problem is that now sometimes when the monitor does a mode-switch, the screen does't re-sync and just sits there black. Power-cycling the monitor will successfully re-sync it; but that, over time, is bad for the monitor. The weirdest part is that it *only* seems to happen at when switching _from_ 1024x768, when the refresh rate is less than 85Hz.
This behaviour occurs with both the windows default drivers and the detonators; as well as with every monitor driver I have tried. And this problem *never* happened in 98SE.
Has anybody ever seen anything like this before? Does anyone have an idea how I can fix this?
Thanks
Q

It MAY have somthing to do with the refresh rate of the card as opposed to the monitor.Have a look at this article>>

BTW you should NEVER need a refresh rate of 85 or higher. The human eye can not see over 60, although certain people claim they see "flicker" as high as 70.

Hmm.. not quite true... I can see refresh rates at 60Hz - easily... I set my monitor to 100Hz - anything less really bothers my eyes...

As I said Dave,
"SOME PEOPLE"....
The office people at work have some monitors that look like a strobe light to me and they swear they cant see a thing.Others(VERY few) can see very high refresh rates.
