Comment:

I just left my computer idle for a while and when I come back, the screen is balck and the monitor is in standby (orange light). That's normal, I have my monitor set to turn off after 15 minutes idle.

But when I move my mouse...nothing. I hit buttons on the keyboard...nothing. CTRL-ALT-DELETE...nothing. I figureed that maybe the computer was shut down because of my my UPS. But it was still on (or at least I could still hear the fans and/or drives spinng), so I hit the reset button and it booted back up.

Does anyone know what went wrong, what caused this to happen? I'm in the middle of finals and the last things I need is another worry. LOL.

Thanks.

Do you use standby or hibernate for the system?

Standby, yes. I just turned it off, though, as I figured that it may be the cause.

Although I thought that moving the mouse returned the system to normal after standby? Like I said, mine was like it was locked up.

Yes that's the culprit. See my comments in this so-called thread dated December 8th...

Dude do you know that computer standby & hibernate are meant for laptops only?
