Hello, Rite now i have two hard drives, one floppy, one cd drive, and one burner, running with a scud. I want to take my cd rom, out and add in a third harddrive. How do i do it? I already have two. i tryed to replace the cd rom with the drive, but windows didnt reconize it. when i tryed using the new harddrive with an already existing harddrive it worked. How can i add my third hardrive, by replaceing it with my CD rom?

Did you set the jumpers to the correct setting on the hard drive (master or slave)?

You can find these settings by going to the manufacturer's website or maybe its written on your Hard Drive.

Look for Master/Slave config. in BIOS.
Also the additional HDD must be config. as Slave. See the labels on the HDD for info. how to set drive as Master, Slave or secondary Master, Slave.
Set BIOS for Auto detection of HDD

ummm....what?

I have 3 hard drives. Primary (master and slave) and secondary primary. My CD-RW is the slave on the secondary. Confused?

Anyways...

If the diagram shows 1 jumper for slave and you want it to be slave...yes remove the 2nd jumper.

If the diagram shows 1 jumper for master and you want it to be master...yes remove the 2nd jumper.

If I remember rite the master is the one at the end of the cable and the slave is in the middle of it.

this is one configuration

ide 1 cable:

farthest connection at end goes to main ( primary hard drive ) and that will be a MASTER ( set hard drive jumper to master)

connection in the middle can also go to a 2nd hard drive and that will be the SLAVE
( set hard dribe jumper to slave )

ide 2:

farthest connection at end goes to cd-rw and that will be a MASTER (set jjumper on cd to master )

the connection in the middle will go to the 3rd hard drive and that will be set to slave

Jumpers are hard drive specific. EACH hard drive has ITS OWN jumper settings (whether master or slave). You must check EACH hard drive's settings either on the label or at the manufacturer website.

Not every website is good...

Maybe ask what is the jumper for my hard drive Maxtor 6J202101 or whatever your hard drive is! Someone can maybe help you look it up.
