I have an A31 that came preloaded with Win2000, 1.8 ghz, 512 ram, radeon 7500. I have had this machine since February, but when I got the machine I reformatted right away and installed WinXP Corporate. I have been having problems ever since.
The machine was getting error messages for awhile including freezing on occasion. The bugchecks were anywhere from being 0x000000A, 7E, or 8E. (From the event viewer). I tried reformatting, updating drivers, not installing the XP service pack....anything I could think of.
After awhile I gave up and I spoke to the helpcenter and they told me to update all the drivers, so I made sure all the drivers were updated, including the BIOS. The only driver issue I had was with the radeon driver. The new one given by IBM would not update on my machine, so I used the old one. Still...Nothing. They had me send it in and they replaced the motherboard.
I got the computer back and it still was doing the same exact stuff. I reformatted another time and updated all the drivers again. However, this time, the radeon 7500 driver was able to be installed. Since this driver has been installed, the computer constantly freezes and also the screen just turns black all of a sudden. I'm pretty sure the new driver had something to do with me not getting the old 7E and 8E error messages, so I'm thinking its an issue with the video card, but I could be wrong.
Anybody have any ideas?
