I am doing up an old thinkpad 600E. I used killdisk. I installed win 98 then upgraded to xp. Thought all was fine until I see that it has only installed on 2GB of hard drive space. I need to get rid of the partition and redo everything. I want xp on all 8GB. Trouble is I am getting constant invalid disk errors when trying to use killdisk again on floppy and indeed on bootable floppy to get to dos prompt. I figured bios must be set all wrong. Went into bios, setup and start up but when I click on startup to change boot sequence nothing happens. I just get two bleeps then nothing. I am stuck. Can anyone advise please. Seems cant boot form cd either!! Thanks

you must set the bood order in your bios to cdrom 1st. then boot from your xp cdrom, nevermind windows 98. delete all partitions and create one new partition to install xp on.
backup important files first, because everything on your hard dic will be deleted
Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

You need to create a FAT32 or NTFS3.1 partition, this can be undertaken during the XP install.
The reason you have 2GB is you used FAT16 when formatting.
As Mattie stated you need only to prove ownership of previous O/S CD to install an XP Upgrade.

Thanks for your help but as I said I cant do anything because I cant get into the bios setup utility to set boot sequence. Thats the first problem. The second is I havent a clue how to create Fat32 or NTSC partitions.
How can I even start when I cant get the laptop to boot to either floppy or cd rom please?? Thanks
