I need some say so on cable. Its 40 dollars a month, yet I need some questions before. I was wondering if it is simple and cheap to have multiple computers/users on the net at the same time. What is a good router, and rather cheap. What kind of download speeds can you get, I wanna know if it is acually worth having compared to 56k since I will be doing alot of webpage stuff and need lots of videos.

The speed depends on the BB you sign up to but should start from 150 and 1 gig is not unusual now and yes it is a world away from dialup.

Routers have become relatively inexpensive, especially if you don't want to go the wireless route, altho even wireless ones don't cost all taht much. Linksys is one of the more popular, probably for good reason. (I've got one and it perks along 24/7 without a hitch.)
You need to ask your internet cable provider what they cap download and upload speeds at. My Roadrunner cable gives me 2000kbps down and 384kbps up. Compared to that, a 56k modem transmits data at speeds like a glacier moves...

Once you've tried cable, you'll feel frustrated if ever you have to go back to dial-up. Go for it, you'll love it.

I agree. I'm a very frustrated guy who now lives 2 miles from the end of the cable service. The one service I didn't ask about when I bought this place. Cable rocks (quickly).

Cable does not even compare to a 56K connection and as already stated, once you go broadband you will never go back.
I normaly pull down anywhere from 100 to 300KB/Sec depending on the site. The max you can pull down on a 56K connection is 7KB/Sec so I say do the math.

You won't regret getting cable. I got it at Christmas time because we had a bad scare and my Mom had to be rushed to the hospital. Thank goodness I had the cell phone on but now I don't worry about the phone line being tied up and it's so fast I don't have to wait and wait for downloads anymore, go for it I say.

I agree with everyone here. When I got my cable connection through AT&T (they recently sold off their northwest broadband to bresnan communications) I was VERY pleased. The speed were fantastic. My download speeds were the same as Kevin's (100-300 KB/s) and when I'd test the download speeds online, they'd often be in the 2.5-3 mbps range. Upload was usually around 256-300 kbps, but with this I was able to host a web server. Even though I didn't have a static IP, it hasn't yet changed since I signed up (little over a year).
It really depends on where you live and who your ISP is, but I think in general you'll find that $40/mo is very reasonable for what you get.
