thermal event

Specs: Windows XP
i turned my dell computer on and it say thermal event so it goes to were i can only push f1 to start in safe mood, safe mood networking and also start up normally and i tried all of them but it shuts my computer back off, so i took the fan and heat sink off and replaced the cement glue under the heat sink and the computer does the same thing were i cant get on at all! what do u recommend next!

hopefully that was heat sink paste and not glue.

usually you don't get a thermal event just turning on the pc. Could be a bad sensor or some other related hardware failure.

You may need to send the unit to dell to get repaired.

it was the paste and i have a pc desk top and it was off 1 day then this is what happened when i turned it on!

I guess it is possible that bios settings are way too low. Not sure how much it will help but it may be possible to put in fridge and then quickly try to access bios to check temperatures if they have a health screen.

Don't know why temp's set the OS to safe mode though. I guess it could be part of acpi.
