I booted my computer the other day and got this message: THE SYSTEM HAS REACHED THE MAXIMUM SIZE ALLOWED FOR THE SYSTEM PART OF THE REGISTRY. ADDITIONAL STORAGE REQUESTS WILL BE IGNORED. Then when I tried to do anything on my desktop, nothing responded. So I re-booted and there was no error message this time, and everything worked fine. BUT...every other time I start up my computer, I get the same message -- and when I re-boot, then the message is gone and my computer works fine.
Also, I went to C:\Windows\System32\Config and the size of my system file is less than 9 MB. Any ideas? Thanks!

This seems to be a pretty poorly documented error. Here is what seems to work for some people:
1) If you have an Nvidia (eitehr for graphics card or for motherboard chip sets) uninstall and reinstall them.
2) Go here: http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-o... and grab NETREGOPT. Run that in in safe mode.
Again, this has worked for some people and not for others. Also, you should probably back up your data before doing anything, just in case.

I wonder how this is related to a file called 'system'. ???

Description of the Disk Cleanup Tool in Windows XP

I've never seen this problem in XP. NT and 2000, but not XP.
I Googled that error. Here's one hit:

Run the error on Google; perhaps other links will help.

Error is pretty straight forward.
You shouldn't have to set RSL in xp and 2003 but it appears you need to. Assuming you aren't running into a quota limit
Here is a registry edit to increase the size.

Some shots in the dark ...
1. Is your copy of XP genuine?
2. Does your XP have at least SP1 (considering the fact that M$ stated in the year 2006 that RSL have no bearing on XP - 5 long years after XP was first RTMed in August 2001)i_Xp/VistaUser

Thanks to all who responded. I really appreciate it. It appears that RTAdams89 nailed it. I uninstalled and re-installed the drivers for my Nvidia graphics card and the problem went away.
