November 10, 2012 at 19:12:20
Specs: Windows XP

Site fs-uk.com will not work. it works for everyone else i know. Ive used this site a lot in the past and it recently updated and changed URL from ls-uk.info to fs-uk.com. Ever since this i have not been able to access this page. when i type it it i get this Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to fs-uk.com
Suggestions:
Access a cached copy of fs-uk.com
Try reloading: fs-uk.com
Search on Google:
or i get 404 NOT FOUND.
any suggestions on how to fix this please? I use google chrome as my browser and havnt had a problem with it until now.

Open up your Hosts file using notepad and look for an entry listing for the website you are having difficulty with.

Your Hosts file is located @ C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

Delete the line containing the website, save and exit.

Richard59 is correct, but you will likely have to turn-off the "read-only" attributes of the file before changing it (right-click, properties, uncheck "read-only") and then change it back (right-click, properties, check "read-only") after you're done.

One quick way to prove whether there is a bogus entry in Hosts is to simply rename it (to HostsX or whatever), which disables it. If it cures the issue then you need to peer into it and edit it, it it doesn't cure it then you look elsewhere for the reason.

Another way is to just bin it, recheck the situation, then restore it from the bin and edit it afterwards if necessary.

It could be either your Windows firewall or router firewall is stopping it. There are Restricted Sites in IE but that wouldn't account for Google Chrome not finding it.

About the only other thing I can suggest is to go here and enter the URL:
http://www.selfseo.com/find_ip_addr...
Then put the IP number this gives you into the address line and see if that takes you there. If it does then it points to some DNS problem.

Post the output of the following two commands:

ping fs-uk.com

nslookup fs-uk.com

You might try flushing your local DNS cache:

ipconfig /flushdns

Might be worth installing, updating and running MalwareBytes freebie from here:

It often finds what AV's miss.

As for your original fs-uk.com - not sure whether you've yet tried all suggestions from #7 onwards.

Did you try using the IP number for fs-uk.com?

By coincidence you use an IP number to access your router settings. This number should have been given to you but you should be able to find it via Google if you search the make and model number. All routers are different but it is usually quite easy to temporarily disable the router firewall to see if that makes any difference.
