I recently ran out of color ink, and deinstalled the HP software on my 1410 printer, due to it always telling me I was out of ink. Finally got around to getting a new cartridge and reinstalled the SW yesterday. Ran fine, yesterday. Today, it came up with a cartridge error, so I cleaned each cartridge, and did the Align, too. But yesterday AND today, I get a blue box thattells me:

"The program has encountered an unexpected
error:?"

There is nothing listed at the top of the box, so I have no idea which program has the error. I have tried getting the latest downloads from HP, but no change. My next step might be to, once again, deinstall everything and then reinstall it. Again. Does anyone have anu better ideas? I have had a lot of trouble keeping this printer running. It's nothing like my last two HP printers.

Thanks for any help.

Bob

Take a look in Event viewer to see if there is any indication of what is causing the error. I't easy to blame the problem printer when something else could be the cause.

There is nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.

Thanks Bob. I had never used the Event folder before. There were two Warnings, both traced out to HP, but no help with the cause. The big E is on and the cartridge light is blinking again, this morning. I don't use the printer that much, as a rule, which is a good thing, I guess. I'll be working on some other things today and I may get the time to try de-sintalling the HP SW completely, again! It is very difficult to get it all out of there, and HP did not provide a deinstaller, of course. Thanks for your help. Maybe, JUST MAYBE, the next evolution of Windows (7?) will be more bug-free. yeah, right, I'm holding my breath!

OK, just to let everyone know, I finally got it all reloaded and no more error messages. At least, not so far. I ended up using Revo Uninstaller and was able, this time, to get ALL the HP stuff out of there. Then I went to HP's site and downloaded the latest drivers, SW, etc and reinstalled it. This seems to have done the trick. I was still getting the Cartridge Error this morning, but when I reconnected the USB cable and finished the install that message went away. I hope it STAYS gone, tomorrow. Thanks for all the good help. As I have said, HP gives me a lot of trouble! Great printers, only so-so software. Drivers, I suspect.

Have a great and Happy Thanksgiving day!
