Ok... here's the issue. I just put in a new motherboard today... installed everything... it was running wonderfully.... until i realized it was only finding 64 of the 128 mg of ram. So i opened it up.. made sure they were both in there right... and actually switched them. Oddly enough, when i reconnected power to it, it started up right away.... and nothing came up on the monitor. Actually.. nothing has come up on the monitor since! I played with both sticks of ram... made sure the video card was in and everything was connected right... nothing.

Additional factor.... the monitor has lights on it that bounce back and forth when its not recieving a signal from anywhere... and they stay stationary when it is. Well... its always stationary now... even when its NOT attached to the box. it seems to not go idle anymore.

Give it your best guess! I'm stumped!!

I can tell you what i have had happen with memory. I know its best if you use more than one stick to have the same kind of memory same brand, same amount, excatly the same. You dont want differant memory. Sometimes that causes problems. Did you check in bios and see if it was set to pci on vga, if its a pci card. you might try just putting the one stick in the proper slot and leave the other out and see if it will boot.

do you get any beeps during post?
also, agp cards are notorious for having seating problems with some boards. many manufacturers strap or block them in now. check to see if you have setting in bios that selects a default video device (agp or pci). if bios has power setting like boot to last state for crashes... turn all that crap off. check your board mfg site and bios mfg site for updates to maybe have to flash the bios.
you can try clearing the cmos memory also.

Also, if its a pci card, try a different slot. if you suspect thememory, try one stick at a time

I appreciate all of the advice... but it doesn't get me past the fact that there is NOTHING on the monitor... i can't get to bios or anything!! I've tried with one stick of ram and the other... still nothing.

Check your cpu. Take it out and put it back in, make sure its right. I had one act up like that because of my installation of the cpu.

I've been noticing a recent increase of people with power supply problems. The computer 'appears' to power up, and the HD active light comes on, but nothing else ever happens... No video, no POST, no apparent errors. You wight try borrowing a power supply from another box, and slaving it in.

You don't have a software problem. You have a hardware problems. Yes, the monitor could have died. Do you have a friend who has a computer? Take your monitor over to their house and see what hapepns or take it down to your local computer shop and ask for you can hook it up to a system real quick. Most small mom and pop shops should allow this. The big clue to me that it is a faulty monitor is the lights are staying on. This is monitors self test and when you have a singal the lights are green but when it is unplugged from the video card the lights should go out but as you stated, they are staying on which is not a good sign. So until you test the monitor on another system or place another monitor on your system you shall not have your answer.

Reset your CMOS, and when you add your memory put one stick in and allow it to boot, shutdown the CPU add the other stick and let it boot.... What happens is your CMOS get a error and cant start.... and the suggestion of removing your processor and putting it back in would work as it resets the CMOS also...... Make sure that you reset the CMOS according to your motherboard manfature instructions as new motherboards have differant way to do it....

Update: I plugged my monitor into my laptop and it worked just fine...

Also, I plugged my friend's AGP vid card into my slot... nothing.

So i'm guessing its either the AGp SLOT... (which will be solved when i get the cheep PCI vid card i ordered) or somehow connected to the ram.

Anyone willing to assure me that its not the new motherboard that I JUST INSTALLED yesterday??!?

The motherboard is a PIII/Celeron 1GHz 370 ATX Motherboard 1.5GB ... I got it from package2you.com

The challenge was i didn't want to buy a new processor and mine is a 400mhz pentium with 66 mhz bus speed. So I had to get something that could handle that.

Thanks again... yes, I'm always willing to tackle the problems... my success is often mixed... but i'm getting pretty good at it!
