I have a compaq deskpro p.c upgraded to a 512sdram, 30 gig hd operating under windows xp pro. I had accidently hit standby instead of shutdown when the screen went black. Every time ive restarted since i get this message: The last attempt to restart the system from the previous location failed. Attempt to restart again. :Then the keyboard stops working, the lights and everything still come on but the screen does not respond to anything i enter. I have tried restoring default bios settings to no avail. i have tried booting of a win xp pro cdrom, and it starts to boot up, then fails and i get my original error message again. I tred the microsoft website and they have addressed this issue but the only thing available is a patch you can download to fix it. A patch thats rather pointless when i can even start up my computer to install it. Please help! I'm at my wits end! ~hollz~

Try rebooting and using f8 to get to the boot mode screen and boot in safe mode first. Then just select restart from the start menu. That has worked for me before. Just a thought.
