Jin, Try the following. Open IE/Tools/Internet Options/General tab, click the "Delete Files" button and when the pop-up window appears checkmark "Delete all offline content" and click OK.

There's a sneaky little hidden file in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\xxxx\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\ which you cannot see or delete by normal methods. This can grow to very large proportions, mine is currently over 6mb because I haven't binned it recently.

I call it sneaky because it contains traces of EVERY site you have visited and if it's innocent why is it so hidden and hard to get rid of.....?

Windows doesn't need it and suffers no ill effects if you do manage to delete it. Is it any wonder people are suspicious of Microsoft !

There's another instance of index.dat in the History folder which even shows things you've searched for in search engines and on sites such as ebay etc.

There are several ways to delete such files but one way is with a utility called MoveOnBoot which allows you to move or delete selected files at the next reboot.

Google search for it or for further info on index.dat files.

kinel is well on the right track. The "emptied" TIF folder will contain not only the index.dat file but also "orphaned" files. These result from partial downloads of web pages and graphics, for example where a page was cancelled before it fully downloaded, or IE crashed. The files are allocated a full whack of disk space, but don't make it into the index.dat, so aren't deleted when TIFs are deleted from Internet Options. Also the index.dat continues to grow, and can easily occupy 10 or even 20Mb after e.g. a year of browsing. This has to be searched every time a new page is loaded, slowing browsing considerably.

I get rid of the whole TIF folder structure by logging on with another admin. account, and deleting C:\Documents and Settings\[original account]\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

Windows will create a new folder structure when you log in with the original account.
