Hi all.
Windows XP Pro.
During my meandering of the C: drive folders I stumbled onto a very large number of Temp files and folders hogging a lot of resources.
I found it under:
C:\Documents and Settings\(user name)\Local Settings\Temp
Can these temp files and folders be deleted safely?
Regards

you need a program called "window washer"

Hi Janset
WIndow Washer is not FREE. You can remove these files manually. Open Control Panel/Internet Options/General & delete files. Click on settings/view files & then delete what ever cookies you don't want to keep. I would also suggest that you change the amount of disk space to use for temporary internet files down to about 20/30 mb.Is Ye Alreet

Hi,
You could also use the system tools to do this for you.
Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Cleanup. This will search your pc for all temp files both OS and internet based ones and give you the option to delete them. . .
Hope this helps. . . :o)

Hi Guys.
I have done all the above suggestions to delete, but they are still there.
When I check the files and folders there-in individually I find that most of them relate to driver up-grades/installation and program installations. There are some .exe files in there also.
And just a a point here ctcnetwork, I do not have a "Tools" option as you say in your above post.
That option is completely missing!
I do not know why. I have never had them or those functions since XP installation a few months ago.
The above services I have to access from the Help page....Strange aye?. Actually it is a bit annoying rather than strange.
What I may do with the temp files, and when I have picked up enough courage (and after a Ghosting), is that I will Zip all these folders up and stash them to see what happens.
If I find that some-thing or other does not work, then I will simply re-install. But in the mean time I will have to put up with the 40 or so entries!

Hi,
Now that is strange.
Win XP stores temp files in a couple of places. Either in your profile folder\Local Settings\Temp OR in %systemroot%\temp.
Generally, it is quite safe to delete anything in either of these folders (thats why they are "Temp" folders!) but some file will still be in use and can't be deleted, copied or moved.
As you don't have the "System Tools" folder what you could do is click -> Start -> RUN and in the box put "cleanmgr.exe" as this should run the disk clean-up program. . .
Hope this helps you. . . :o)
