I recently downloaded a program called TCP optimizer . I have 2 computers running Win XP SP2 networked by Ethernet cards and twisted pair cable. Using ICS on a dial-up Internet connection. When I ran TCP Optimizer on the host computer and connected to the Internet it reported a connection speed of 115 Kbps up from the usual 42.5 Kbps . However it wiped out my LAN network, and the only way I could re-establish it was by reverting to the saved configuration in TCP Optimizer on the host computer, and doing a System Restore on the guest computer.
I have read the FAQ's, it has no help file, and could find no answers I could understand. I have posted on the SpeedGuide Forums hoping for a fix, however no answers have been forthcoming.
Unfortunately though TCP Optimizer is claimed to work on Dial-up, the site and information on it is related to Broadband Connection a system I have no access to, so I am quite interested in using TCP Optimizer if it will increase my Internet speed.
Has anybody used this program with Dial-up and a LAN? Any help would be greatly appreciated,Ausimax
The older I get the less I know yet!

Were you able to get online with your dial-up and lan networking before the installation?
I though that you couldn't use dial-up and lan at the same time.IN THE MATTERS OF STYLE,
swim with the current;
in matters of principle,
STAND LIKE A ROCK

Beware of programs like that, if you want a significantly faster connection and transfer speed you dump dialup for broadband (if available).
Those program for the most time do nothing but fcuk up your stacks, you may have gotten just a slap on the wrist this time. Be happy, you might not be that fortunate next time.
Do not type anything in this space.

Hi
having used the optimizer tweak on cable
it 'seemed to work' (like cable nut they purport to do amazing things for you but .... ,)
blackviper.com is the best tweak site around for xp http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm
You will be needing to reinstall tcp ip here:http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=1539
and reconfigure new ics.optimiser does nothing for dial up.
if there was a golden tweak we'd all be using it and you would hear about it here 1st!

Hi
Thanks for the answers, yes I could use dial-up and local network with both computers sharing internet connection at the same time, a little slow though not to bad if you don't try and open pages at the same time.
Hence trying something to speed things up, Cable and Broadband not available here and I can't afford the alternatives.Like you say if there was any thing that worked we would all be using it.
Thanks again,
Ausimax
