Comment:

I have 76 processes running after start up. Tried disabling everything except the basics using msconfig/startup but not allowing changes, says I might need admin rights to do so. I have double checked my user account and I am the admin, is there another way for me to disable all the junk, my computer expert children have inflicted on my 3 month old system.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

your computer is most likely infected with malware.

you can use Autoruns instead of MSCONFIG which will not be affected by the restrictions in place:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sy...

unzip to a folder of your choice and run the program (use the LOGON tab)

then you should post your problem in the Security & Virus board.

thank you. i have installed autoruns, and it has detected heaps of entries. Is it ok to select the 'hide microsoft entries' as i don't pretent to know enough to not accidentally disable something that I should not touch.

Sorry, I am not completely computer illiterate, but still have a lot to learn.

You know enough to ask before removing. That is a good start. We are all learning here. Never ending task too.

as i said ... stick to the LOGON tab first.

you can disable literally anything except explorer and the user logon application. you can re-enable any entry later again if you wish to do so.
