Comment:

I just migrated from my old computer that used W98, to a new computer with XP Pro. The migration program transferred taskmon.exe (dated 1998) with the system -- on bootup I get an error message "Procedure entry point Register Service Process could not be located in Kernel32.dll" Since I can't find any references to Taskmon used in XP, is it safe to delete this file (I renamed it as a trial, to no apparent ill effect).

It's probably alright to delete it, but if you have it renamed with no ill effect wait some period of time just to make sure.

I would just remove it from starting in msconfig. It's used by the defragger to supposedly speed it up but I've never noticed any difference.
