Good morning everyone,
Hopefully I can explain this so it makes sense to those reading it.
When I right click on my Taskbar and then click on properties my Taskbar Startup and Properties Screen appears.
I then click on Customize and the first thing I see are programs that I have starting when my computer starts. These are the correct icons and are displayed properly
However, if I scroll down a little I see more listings which don't show any program icons but mainly folder icons. I was wondering if this is normal? It looks like this:

Then if I scroll down even further I get to see some more Program icons but they don't match up with the correct program. They look like this:

For the record, I am having no problems with my computer. These entries are just something I am curious about.
Should all these entries be listed like they are and especially the ones which don't match up with the correct program?
Is there any way to get the ones which I don't use and have any need for anymore out of this Taskbar listing?
Thanks and regards,
Phil

Phil, I'm assumong that all of those entries are listed under Past Items. To get rid of them follow the instructions exactly as shown at the link below.

Hi Tufenuf,
Always glad to see you answering my posts.
I understand the directions you furnished me for the most part but I still have a few questions. When I monkey with the registry I want to make sure I do it right.
You are correct in assuming the icons I want to get rid of are listed under 'Past Items'.
My questions are:
(1) After I delete the icons listed under 'Past Items' will they be able to return if I use that function again? The reason I ask is because one of them is my Notification Icon for "receiving new mail".
(2) The directions say to delete both the 'Icon Streams' and 'PastIconsStream' Values. Am I correct in assuming I right click on both of them and choose 'delete'? Once they are deleted will they ever reappear again and if so, how?
(3) Finally since the directions are telling me to delete 'Icon Streams' will this affect the Icons and the programs they represent currently listed under 'Current Items'?
Once again, I appreciate you taking the time to answer and help.
Thanks and regards,
Phil

Phil, I'll be frank with you as I have never removed mine but according to this:
Below is from the link I gave you.
Notification Area - Remove Past Icons from List
If you have items in Past Items that are have long ago been removed from the system and want to remove them from the list, use the following procedure. It appears to be relevant to programs that have been removed or uninstalled from your system. You may just want to leave well enough alone. Maybe someone who did this will chime in with a better answer.
Tufenuf

Hi Tufenuf,
Thanks for answering once again.
I guess by the sounds of it I had better "just let well enough alone" ...lol
What really sparked my 'curiousity' (and you know I have plenty of that ...lol) is why all the 'folder' icons were included in the 'Past Items' listing. When I say 'folder' icons I am referring to the actual icon depicting a folder.
Do 'folder' icons (the actual icon depicting a folder)appear in your past items listing too?
Your input is appreciated as always.
Thanks and regards,
Phil

Phil, "Do 'folder' icons (the actual icon depicting a folder)appear in your past items listing too?"
Yes they do and in other computers I've looked at they also do. It's nothing to be concerned with.
Tufenuf

Hi again Tufenuf,
You said: " .... Yes they do and in other computers I've looked at they also do. It's nothing to be concerned with...."
That's the reassurance I was looking for ....lol
As always I appreciate your posting and excellent answers.
Have a great weekend!
Thanks and regards,
Phil
