in xp pro, on a leptop, when windows start, it's not showing icons of the battery or the mouse in the taskbar. (ofcourse i've marked the option of Show icon in taskbar) even when I try to mark it off and applying and then marking it again, it's not showable. AND -the hide inactive icons is not marked too, so it SHOULD appear!! thanks

Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and click on "Task Manager;" go to the "Processes" tab and highlight "EXPLORER.EXE" Press "End Process" and wait a while. The taskbar should come up again in about two to three minutes. If your taskbar icons are still missing, you can always logout (but do not shutdown, because you will be left with the same problem)
