Comment:

Although I put a check mark on the box that says "Keep taskbar on top of other windows", it becomes unchecked and the check mark is at the box "auto-hide the taskbar" whenever the pc reboots or restarts after a shutdown.
Please help. Thanks

You need to reset it each time the PC restarts. There is no option built into it for permanent setting.

ngkh, do you mean if you right click the taskbar, go to properties and if you get there I have these 3 checked
1- Lock the Taskbar

2- Keep the taskbar on top of other windows

3- Group similar taskbar buttons

It always stays that way for me.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

What I'm afraid of is could it be some hidden spyware or virus that does this unchecking and checking or this is a bug/defect of Windows XP Home SP2 as I have another pc with XP Pro SP2 which does not exibit this problem, XPUser? Anyone out there having the same problem as mine and am able to resolve it?

and see if all system files are intact

ngkh, You may want to go to the link below and click on "Restore to XP Default * (clickable)" to download a vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double
click the vbs file. You will be prompted when the script is done.

"NOTE: If your anti-virus software warns you of a "malicious" script, this is normal if you have "Script Safe" or similar technology enabled. These scripts are not malicious, but they do make changes to the System Registry."

It may correct the problem.

Tufenuf, I had another thread running about the menu pop-up of the taskbar and didn't get any answers. The person has now gone back up north for the summer. Do you think that one of those cures on the link should work for her?
I myself don't know, because she has already left.
Thanks

XpUser4Real, I saw that thread but have never seen that problem. I honestly couldn't say that any of those possible fixes would correct that problem. Wish I had a better answer but I don't.

Tufenuf, thanks for the reply
I think I'll try the Restore to XP Default when she returns, I'll keep the info handy on my PC. That pop-up was really strange

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks
