Taskbar but no icons

Specs: Microsoft XP Home, 3.0 / 1gig
Slightly weird one this. I'm used to seeing
computers start up with nothing on the
desktop, but I've got one that has the taskbar,
system tray & start menu all working fine, but
nothing on the desktop - not even the recycle
bin.

Even trying to create a shortcut doesn't work,
select 'create shortcut' and nothing appears.

I thought it may have active desktop set up &
messed up but it's just got plain/no wallpaper
and nothing's selected under the 'web' tab.

Everything else works fine but it would be nice
to be able to have a few shortcuts rather than
having to go through the Start menu.

Anyone come across this?

johnr, Right click your Desktop select Arrange Icons By and select Show Desktop Icons ro checkmark it.

If that doesn't work go to the link below and scroll down to line 195 (right column) and click on "Restore Desktop Icons and Taskbar" to download a vbs file fix.

To use the VBS Files: Download .vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double
click the vbs file. You will be prompted when the script is done.

Doh! - it was the 'show desktop icons' solution - I'd forgotten
about that one completely.

Nice simple one for a lovely sunny Friday afternoon - many
thanks.
