Task Manager won't open...

December 10, 2005 at 10:57:45
Specs: Windows XP Home, 2.4Ghz/256RAM

My Task Manager absolutely refuses to open. I have tried the shortcuts (CTRL+ALT+DLT, CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) and I have tried going to the start bar and running program "taskman.exe", and nothing happens. It sounds like a virus (I have been having some problems with the BHO lately), but I have been using Microsoft Antispyware and XoftSpy, and I have been getting most of that removed... Oh, another strange thing is most viruses block both the registry editor and the task manager, but I can open the registry editor just fine, it's just the task manager that is being blocked...

Hello Mesich,

I tried installing the registry key on line 275 (Lift Restrictions - TM, Regedit and CMD), and it installed successfully. I tried to open the task manager again to no avail, so then I went to line 51 and clicked on "Enable The Task Manager", and checked the registry files listed, and none of them existed on my computer... Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jared

Jared, Check out the link below where you may want to download the Doug Knox utility for trouble shooting purposes.

Why does Task Manager disappear while opening?
