HI there all.
Quick question. Bit stumped on this. I seems to have been "locked out" of running task manager and Reg edit. When I load them, either nothing happens or they load for 1 second then close. I have no idea how to put this back to normal. I have tried re-setting the Admin account. My Norton AV 2003 is up to date so i don't think I have a Virus. . .
Anyone got any ideas??
Cheers.
D.

I am pretty sure you have a virus
To find the virus get scanned free at
http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
then when it finds it or them delete the files then do an internet search on them to find out the damage they have done
For the lockout problem go to start-search and type msconfig.exe then find the file and *copy* it to your desktop, right click on the new desktop file and rename it to msconfig.com it should now work to make changes. Same with the taskmgr and regedit. Delete .com files when done

If you have norton it is not suprise if there is virus. Norton is not so good. I have seen that five other virus scanner didn't find a virus but norton did, the thing is that the file was clear there was no virus. Try F-Secures antivirus I have used it and doesn't had any problems with any virus.

Yer, whatever. Well done. You are the man. What a guy, GENIUS. . . or bored. . . ?

Any-the-way.

Found the file that NO VIRUS SOFTWARE detects. Let me run that by you again. NO Virus SOFTWARE!! What a pain. It's called amsndmgr.exe. If I unload this from memory, then everything(Task manager, regedit, msConfig) works fine.

Also, I learnt a valuable lesson today.
1.JTKiser1022 is bored.Aren't we all though! hehe.
2.Norton AntiVirus does NOT search your System Restore volume cos that is where the the scanner from Dave02's suggested http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_corp.asp did! It found 2 in there!! Gee man, why the hell would anyone pay for Norton. It suck. thanks for the advice. i always trusted it . . . How daft I was.
Peace.
D.
