After scanning and getting rid of over a 100 viruses (all file infected had to be deleted) and ad ware using Norton Anti virus (has latest updates) and Lavasofts Adaware, then converting the file system from FAT32 to NTFS (XP professinal), after logging on I find now that the taskbar does not work, everything else on the desktop does except the taskbar! the task bar was working fine before converting to NTFS! i place to mouse pointer over the start button and nothing happens, I can't right-click on the task bar either. I have press ctrl-Alt-del through task manager to shut down or log off. I tried creating a new profile thinking it was a corrupt profile but I get the same result. Oh when shutting down, I get the "explorer.exe" end program message. Any help appreciated!

Try running System File Checker. Goto Start > Run, type:
SFC /SCANNOW
and hit enter. This will scan and repair/replace as necessary all Windows system files. It may help, it may not, but it's worth a shot :-)

After removing that many viruses I would STRONGLY suggest a fresh install of Xp. That is just my opinion though.
To try and fix the problem insert your Xp cd and click start, then run, and enter sfc /scannow This will scan your pc for missing/corrupt system files.
