Computer boots normally. The first time I open a program or desktop link, it starts up fine but the page is 'unclickable.' The only method to get around this is cntl/alt/del (I do it before opening any program after restart). You don't have to click anything in the Task Manager, just open it and close it. Then everything works fine.
Solution: run Microsoft Onecare Live free scan service to repair registry. (worked for me)

So you switched from XP to Vista? Any follow-up to a thread should be posted in that thread. :)

I've experienced the same problem and work-around. After XP SP2 boots, the taskbar is hung before showing tasks; when the mouse hovers over the taskbar, the hour glass shows; the Start menu doesn't open. The work-around for me is also Ctl+Alt+Del, which requires about 2 minutes on my dual core 1.8Ghz machine to wake up the taskbar.
Is there a fix, rather than the Ctl+Alt+Del work-around?
