I can't get my HP pav 7996 to boot. All I get is an error that says 'windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:<Windows Root>system32\hal.dll. Please reinstall a copy of the above file'.
I've tried the HP Recovery disks to no avail and can't get the thing to boot into Windows to do anything.
Can anyone help out, please?
Thanks so much,
Peter

1. Boot into ur recovery console.
2. Run fixMBR

This should, I think, fix your problem - the master boot record.

I should run a fixMBR before a bootcfg /rebuild
