Hey, every time i start up my computer, the System 32 folder pops-up once windows is done loading. Does anybody know a way i can turn this off?
Thanks,
Alex

Here is the solution:
Click on Start/Run and type regedit and click ok. Then navigate
to>Hkey_local_Machine/software/microsoft/windows nt/current
version/winlogon. In the right box go to shell it should read Explorer exe
windows\system32\system32.exe Right click on shell open modify and delete
windows\system32\system32.exe. LEAVE EXPLORER.exe.in tack and reboot. This will fix your problem.

Alex, I did some research about this issue, on Dell Dimension systems having
a factory installed Creative Labs Audigy2 sound card, after an
unknown period of time and with an unknown trigger event, a registry
entry will be added that causes the System32 folder window to
open at system startup.
Open the MSCONFIG utility (Start/Run type in MSCONFIG click OK) and deselect (uncheck) the /L:ENG entry from
the STARTUP tab, click Apply, click OK and restart your computer.
The above is basically a modified version from Heidi1's Response Number 8 at the link below.http://computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/66713.html

Alex, If none of the previous suggestions solve the problem go to the link below and download & run the "System32 Folder Opens Upon Boot" Fix. It's Number 260 in the right side column. It has worked for others.

I have DELL DIMENSION, and i had the problem of SYSTEM 32 window poping up. but also my C:\Program Files\Internet also pops up, the computer came with TISCALI internet clien pre installed, i managed to stop the system 32 window from poping up using your above method, of msconfig etc, but this did not stop C:\Program Files\Internet from poping up, any suggestion will be much appreciated
thx

Hi..Tufenuf is absolutely rignt in that. Also if that does not work then click on Start -> Run
type in msconfig
uncheck :L\eng in the startup tab in system configuration utility.
This will fix the issue of System32 folder poping up.

i have a dell dimension as well but when i go to uncheck the system32, it comes back when i start i go online and open internet explorer. i have 2 ad ware removers and 2 virus scanners (i'm paranoid) but niether of these do anything about the system 32. look here >>http://computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/91802.html
for my post of this problem.

I also have the same problem with my system32 folder popping up whenever I boot up or when I open my IE ... Tufenuf ~ I tried the fix you suggested and it said it could not fix my problem ... I attempted to try Dave02's solution, but did not understand it fully ... any help would be greatly appreciated =)

this has nothng to do with system32 , my computer keeps shutting down for no apparent reason....i was wonderin if any of u guys had the same prob. goin on

I have the same kind of issue. I looked in Registry but had no luck. In myWin logon entry it says this: "C:\WINNT\system32\userinit.exe," That is all? How can I fix it? Delete that? I try the VB script fix, it didn't work I don't think? It said something about the value not present? Help Please!!! BTW, this is a Win2k sp4 Machine. Thanks, Chris

I have this problem.. I tried to remove that :/L thing.. But its not there.. I also tried to IE thing.. But something is really messed up.. Please help me.. xDiStUrBeD_AzNx AIM

Hi
Tried all of the above suggestions - went to winlogon - no explorer function in there.
BTW does anybody know how to delete software with using control panel - the unwanted programs are not featured here, but listed in my registry??
Many thanks
ps. Also messing around with my system 32 file - i deleted some files within - and now have messed about my cut/paste/ attachment functions, they no longer work!
cheers

Ok what Dave was trying to elude to (I hope I can be more clear =) was if your SHELL entry at that key is EXPLORER.exe you are fine.
If it says anything else DELETE the whole key and reboot.J.
